Job Description

A New York City Council Caucus seeks a full-time Director to facilitate the operations of the Caucus. This individual will be hired by Caucus members, and will be an employee of the New York City Council. Interested candidates should apply as soon as possible, at the latest by January 30, with interviews scheduled for January 31 and week of February 3.

The responsibilities of the Caucus Director include (but are not limited to):

Policy & Budget Advocacy
1. Develop, research and advocate for a policy agenda, legislative packages, and budget
proposals based on Caucus Member consensus and priorities
2. Interface with external stakeholders collaborating with the Caucus
3. Organize actions of the Caucus such as rallies, briefings and community events related to priority issues
4. Work with elected officials to organize and advocate for priority legislation

Communications Strategy
1. Create narrative for progressive campaigns including talking points, sign-on letters,
visuals and media toolkits
2. Draft public-facing materials including statements, quotes, reports and releases as well as field inquiries from members of the press
3. Maintain an effective social media presence, manage Caucus website and promote
Caucus activity
4. Develop critical communication with stakeholders, advocates, and allies external
stakeholders collaborating with the Caucus

Internal Administration
1. Schedule monthly Caucus meetings along with relevant activity including drafting
agendas, sending notices, facilitating discussion and executing follow up
2. Coordinate regular communication between members’ offices on shared priorities to
ensure cohesion within the Caucus
3. Plan strategic engagements including policy meetings, retreats, conferences, agency meetings and social events for Caucus members and staff


Applicants must possess and be able to demonstrate the following skills and competencies:

1. At least 2-3 years of work experience in government, public policy, community
organizing or other relevant fields
2. Knowledge of NYC politics, government and current issues
3. Detail-oriented, strong organizational skills, and ability to oversee multiple projects and coordinate multiple busy schedules
4. Excellent writing and communications skills
5. A commitment to the Caucus of at least one year
